New projects on the anvil: Andhra Pradesh

Six infrastructure projects to be taken up to attract investors.

Visakhapatnam: After the Asian Development Bank (ADB), that has come forward to fund the Vizag-Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC), prepared its concept plan, the state government’s department of industries, had recently finalised Vizag-Chennai Industrial Corridor Development Programme (VCICDP), to augment the infrastructure along the proposed corridor. A resettlement frame work has also been prepared.

Under the development programme, six important infrastructure projects have been identified to be taken up immediately to attract investors at Atchyutapuram cluster in Vizag district and Naidupeta cluster in Chittoor district. All these projects are to be implemented in four years, from 2016 to 2019.

“VCICDP will complement ongoing efforts of the government of Andhra Pradesh to enhance manufacturing sector growth and create high-quality jobs in the state. The VCICDP comprises policy-based loan to support policy reforms, and institutional development in the state’s industrial sector and a multi tranche financing facility (MFF) for priority infrastructure projects within the Visakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC),” said the VCICDP.

The subprojects identified for funding under Tranche 1 of the MFF include, construction of Common Effluent Treatment plant at Atchyutapuram and Naidupet Industrial clusters, augmenting utility services for Naidupet Industrial cluster, distribution Network improvements for 24x7 supply in GVMC area, upgrading and rehabilitation of ‘Samarlakota to Rajanagaram’ Section of ‘Kakinada – Rajanagaram’ road to 2 Lane Dual Carriageway Standard, augmenting power distribution capacity for meeting Industry demand at Kapuluppada, Ozone Valley, Nakkapalle/Chandanada and Atchyutapuram locations and augmenting power distribution capacity for meeting industry demand at Rachagunneri, Naidupeta and Yerpedu locations. The state of Andhra Pradesh acting through its Department of Industries will be the executing agency (EA).

The Directorate of Industries within the Department of Industries will be responsible for the daily coordination and execution of both the programme as well as the MFF.

A programme management unit (PMU), established in the DOI, will be responsible for planning, implementation, monitoring and supervision, and coordination of all activities under the programmer and the MFF. Project implementation units (PIUs) will be established in APIIC, APRDC, APTransco, and Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), and will be responsible for implementing the MFF.
