Belagavi: Union Minister for Commerce and Industries Nirmala Sitaraman announced in Belagavi that her ministry would set up an office of the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) to boost the export business in Belagavi region.
Addressing party workers at a programme organised to mark the BJP's Tiranga Yatra here, she justified her decision to start DGFT saying the city has proved its export potential in cast iron and auto components by exporting them to the European Union and the Middle East.
The ministry's business processes are being made online and the setting up of an office here will help, she said. The ministry will engage Agricultural Product Export Development Corporation to study the feasibility of agro-produce export business in Belagavi region, she said adding that vegetables grown in the region on which several areas in Maharashtra and Goa state are totally dependent, will provide a window of opportunity to explore the export business in vegetables.
