Govt fixes Rs 100 for 200 ml hand sanitizer

Since the outbreak of coronavirus, the market has seen a huge increase in the prices of face masks and hand sanitizer

Hyderabad: After declaring facemasks and hand sanitizers under essential commodities, the government has now fixed the prices of face masks and hand sanitizers, Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan has said in a tweet.

The government and the private sector are both taking steps to make personal care, hygiene and sanitation products more affordable as they are highly used to fight the rapidly spreading coronavirus.

The minister said since the outbreak of coronavirus, the market has seen a huge increase in the prices of various face masks and materials used in its manufacture and hand sanitizer. Taking this seriously, the government has fixed surgical masks and hand sanitizers prices.

“The retail price of a 200 ml bottle of hand sanitizer will not exceed Rs 100. Other sizes of bottles will also be priced in the same proportion. These prices will be applicable throughout the country till June 30, 2020," union minister for consumer affairs, Ram Vilas Paswan, mentioned in a tweet.

Earlier this month, the government had declared sanitizers and masks “essential commodities" to prevent hoarding and price manipulation of such goods.
