Outages disrupt power minister Piyush Goyal's press meet
New Delhi: In an embarrassment to power minister Piyush Goyal, electricity went off three times on Friday while he was addressing a press meet on the achievements of the government in the last two years in the power sector.
Power went off for the first time at 11.25 am when he was listing out steps taken to make India power surplus country.
Mr Goyal, however, blamed state governments for not buying enough power though the place where the event was conducted comes under NDMC, which is under the direct administration of the Centre.
The minister took electricity cut in his stride and quipped: “I think I mentioned last time that my wife tells me that power should go off once in every programme that I hold so that I can be sure that I have miles to go before I rest and sleep. I don’t know if they’ve made it a practice because of her guidance or it is actually gone.”
Later, gensets have tripped due to surge in the power requirement. But it was later restored.
