Assembly poll results may speed up reforms, says Asscoham

West Bengal's Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in her first press conference said that her party will support the GST Bill

New Delhi: The elections results in Tamil Nadu, West Ben-gal, Assam and Kerala have raised hopes that the NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be able to push through crucial reforms including GST.

“Results of the Assembly elections have strengthened Mr Modi, who will now be able to speed up economic reforms with help of non-Congress friendly parties like AIADMK and even Trinamool Cong-ress,” Assocham president Sunil Kanoria said on Thursday.

“The NDA government will certainly find it easier to deal with the Trinamool Congress and the AIADMK in the Rajya Sabha for passage of crucial Bills, mainly the long-pending and the most important, GST (Goods and Services Tax),” said Mr Kanoria.

Infact, Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in her first press conference after the Assembly elections results started coming in, said that her party will support the GST Bill, which has been opposed by the Congress, in Parliament.
