India's digital shake-up an exciting application: InfoComm

AV market in the Indian sub-continent grew to USD 3.7 billion in 2014 from USD 2.6 billion in 2012.

Bengaluru: The digital transformation in India is one of the most exciting applications of audio-visual and information and communication technology (AV and ICT) in the world, InfoComm International Executive Director and CEO David Labuskes has said.

According to a recent InfoComm Market Definition and Strategy Study for India, the AV market in the Indian sub-continent grew to USD 3.7 billion in 2014 from USD 2.6 billion in 2012.

It is projected to hit USD 5.4 billion by the end of 2016.Labuskes, on a week-long visit to the country, was speaking here last evening at a technology awareness programme, ICT Solutions for Digital and Smart Karnataka,organised by InfoComm Asia, in collaboration with the Computer Society of India (CSI) and the Smart Cities India Foundation "As India undergoes digital transformation and smart urbanisation, the activism presents the industry with tremendous opportunities as well as necessities," he said.

He highlighted the need for adequate exposure to ICT understanding and leveraging the benefits of ICT at various levels which is expected to play an important role in the entire process.

It is necessary for the government, business and other sectors to find solutions to emerging challenges and ensure those solutions are meaningful and comprehensive, enabling a better life for citizens, he said.

"InfoComm is pleased to support and take part in the spread of solutions and practices that lay the foundation for India's growing AV and ICT markets and for its success in creating smarter cities," Labuskes said while narrating the organisation's initiatives in the country.InfoComm International is a trade association representing the commercial audio-visual industry worldwide.

According to Anirban Basu, V-P and President-elect of CSI,the largest and oldest body of ICT professionals, the group has been guiding the Indian IT industry for the last 50 years and there are many opportunities for organisations like CSI and InfoComm to work towards a common objective of furthering ICT benefits.InfoComm has more than 5,000 members from more than 80 countries.
