Online recruitment activity sees 10% jump in September: Monster.com
New Delhi: Online recruitment activities surged 10 per cent in September, led by sectors like BPO, logistics and customer service, that witnessed a significant increase in hiring amid festive fervor, says a report.
The September Monster Employment Index (MEI) India registers 10 per cent year-on-year growth. Logistics registered 32 per cent jump, while hiring of customer service professionals registered 66 per cent rise. Education continued to lead industries with a year-on-year growth of 67 per cent in September.
"On the back of the expectations from the festive season, MEI for September shows significant hiring growth in the BPO and the logistics sectors as well as in the hiring of customer service professionals," Sanjay Modi, Managing Director, Monster.com, APAC and Middle-East said.
City-wise data showed a steep growth for tier-II cities with Jaipur and Ahmedabad steering ahead of metros such as Delhi and Mumbai.
"Tier-II markets continue to outperform the metros; Jaipur (up 30 per cent) followed by Ahmedabad (up 29 per cent) recorded the highest growth. The top metros such as Delhi (up by 26 per cent) and Mumbai (up by 23 per cent) are yet to enter the top recruiter's race," Modi said.
The report said that e-recruitment in travel and tourism sector has decreased (eight per cent) for the first time since December 2013.
"This drop can be attributed to lack of initiatives to promote Indian tourism in the overseas markets. This is further compounded by the other factors-- safety of travellers and the outbreak of diseases such as dengue and chikungunya," Modi said.
Among industries, production and manufacturing (down 18 per cent) and IT moderated from 44 per cent in August to 31 per cent in September. These two key industries continue to remain in the slump despite of rigorous government campaigns such as Digital India and Make in India, the report said.
