Panaji: Trading cautiously after proposing an increase in VAT on petrol, Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has said the tax would be reviewed if petrol rates cross Rs 60 per litre mark in the state.
"If petrol crossed mark of Rs 60 per litre, which was before April 1, 2012, we will review the VAT hike on it," Parsekar told reporters last evening after presenting the state budget for 2016-17.
The state government has proposed an increase in VAT on petrol from 15 per cent to 22 per cent. Reduction of VAT on petrol was one of the most popular decisions taken by then Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar when the party received mandate in 2012 Goa Assembly polls.
"The Budget is a common man's budget. It has been drafted keeping in mind the interest of common man," Parsekar said.
He claimed that the BJP-led government is probably the only political dispensation that has given welfare schemes in its every budget.
"BJP's every budget is election promise fulfilment budget. The party is here to give and serve people," he said.
