Telangana IT exports touch record Rs 75,000 crore
Hyderabad: IT exports from Telangana increased by 13.26 per cent, to Rs 75,070 crore in the financial year 2015-16 against Rs 66,276 crore the previous year. While releasing the annual report of the IT sector in the state, information technology minister K.T. Rama Rao on Wednesday informed the media that the state’s growth in both IT and IT Enabled Services (ITES) sectors was higher than the national average of 12.3 per cent.
Exports to double by 2019: KT Rama Rao
Releasing the annual report of the IT sector in the state, information technology minister K.T. Rama Rao on Wednesday informed the press that the IT sector in the state had created over 35,600 new jobs last year, taking the total workforce to 4,07,385.
“We are also planning to double exports by 2019. After the formation of Telangana state, we have concentrated on the brand image of Hyderabad and on IT growth from the second year,” he said.
Popular IT companies from the US like Apple have chosen Hyderabad after several studies in various cities in 26 countries. “Apple is going to establish its largest campus outside US in Hyderabad. Similarly, three more popular firms, Google, Amazon and Uber, have chosen the city for establishing their campuses. Fly Dubai has also decided to invest in TS,” he said.
He said that MoUs had been signed with 28 IT companies during the announcement of Telangana’s new IT-Policy. “We prepared the policy after consulting experts in the field. We have achieved a good growth rate in IT. Now we are concentrating on animation, gaming and entertainment sectors.”
The minister added that three popular mobile manufacturers would also establish their units in the city. “During our visit to China and other countries, we signed MoUs with electronic manufacturing associations of China and Taiwan. Very soon, several companies from these countries will invest in the state. During the recent visit to US, we signed an MoU with popular computer processor manufacturer AMD for its Very-Large-Scale-Integration (VLSI) project,” he said.
