Over 60,000 new companies registered in April-December: Arun Jaitley

All the firms are registered under the Companies Act, implemented by the Corporate Affairs Ministry.

New Delhi: More than 60,000 new companies were registered in the country in the first nine months of the current fiscal. The 60,489 new companies had authorised capital of Rs 11,986 crore, Corporate Affairs Minister Arun Jaitley said in a written reply to Rajya Sabha on March 15.

In comparison, 64,395 companies were registered in the entire last fiscal, 2014-15. The number of newly registered companies stood at 92,383 and 98,437 in 2012-13 and 2013-14. All the firms are registered under the Companies Act, implemented by the Corporate Affairs Ministry.

In recent times, the government has been making efforts to further improve the ease of doing business in the country and among other measures, certain provisions of the Companies Act, 2013 have been amended. Most provisions of the Act, which replaced the nearly six-decade old law, came into force from April 1, 2014.

In a separate reply, Jaitley said the ministry has launched prosecution proceedings against 241 companies on investor complaints in the last three financial years.

"Prosecution related to investors' complaints has been launched against 73 companies in 2012-13, 66 companies in 2013-14 and 102 companies in 2014-15," he said.

He further said complaints received from investors in the ministry and its field offices are forwarded to the companies concerned for remedial action.

"In case the company fails to redress the grievance of the complainant and/or is found to be in violation of the provisions of the Companies Act, suitable action under the provisions of the Companies Act, 2013/1956 is initiated," the minister added.
