New era in education where skill paves way for success

The students are trained under the watchful eyes of the experienced, knowledgeable Swiss trainers.

Bhartiya Skill Development University is the first project of its kind in India and is an initiative of the Joshi Foundation, Switzerland instituted by Late Dr. Rajendra Joshi and his wife Mrs. Ursula Joshi.

Dr Joshi initiated this project for Skill Development based on the Swiss Dual System of training. Dual learning incorporates both vocational school learning and practical on the job training. With the mission to impart knowledge, technical skills, and hands-on training.

The program is designed to introduce the students to the operation of today's complex studies by giving them a comprehensive understanding, basic to advance. The course is focused on producing skilled manpower for all service industry through regroups training, both at university and at industry through its modular program structure.

BSDU emphasizes on the dual training system where the focus is majorly on practical experience and exposure, this is the sole reason why students are offered a very flexible curriculum and are not bound to complete a particular programme if recruited by the industry. Students are offered multiple entry and exit points to enhance their skills at any point in time of their respective careers. Programmes are designed in a unique way where one-student-one-machinery environment is created to provide a work-station like experience.The students are trained under the watchful eyes of the experienced, knowledgeable Swiss trainers.

BSDU’s Pro Chancellor, Dr (Brig) Surjit Singh Pabla, says, “Bhartiya Skill Development University is striving to offer the best chance at skill development, through skill education. Students get to learn and explore new streams and types of courses, and they get practical experience while studying at the university which helps them gain expertize ahead of getting a job. With the help of one the machine- one student rule in BSDU, students have the chance to learn more and with enough time on their hans without having the next student rushing to use the machine next.”

BSDU offers courses including: Electrical Skills, Carpentry Skills, Construction Skills, Office Administration Skills, Metal Construction Skills, IT/Networking Skills, Machine Learning and AI Skills, Hospitality and Tourism Skills. This is a modular three year (six semester) program with multiple exit with Skill Certificate after one semester, Skill. Diploma after two semesters, Skill Advance Diploma after four semesters and Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc.) after six semesters. The student can exit at any level and come back to pursue education at higher level at a time of their convenience. Students are provided apprenticeships and spend one semester in each year, training with various companies and learning in industries.

The objective of BSDU is to support, promote and undertake the advancement of the high quality skill education leading to Certificates, Diplomas, Advance Diplomas, graduation and post-graduation, doctoral and post–doctoral degrees in the fields of different skills and offer opportunities for research, advancement and dissemination of knowledge.

Dr Achintya Choudhury, Vice Chancellor at BSDU, says, “BSDU provides the opportunity for students to get not just Bachelor’s and Master’s degree, but also a PhD in skill based courses. Students can exit from and enter the course at any time. BSDU provides managers ready for companies to hire, with field experience already present.”
