E-purchase of jewellery up 38 per cent this time

Overall demand of jewellery and gold was around 20 per cent higher this time.

Chennai: Electronic purchases in jewellery went up 38 per cent this Akshaya Tritiya, while gift articles saw a whopping growth of 54 per cent.

E-transactions gained from encouraging Akshaya Tritiya sales this year. There was a 16 per cent overall growth in electronic transaction value and 13 per cent in volumes on May 7 against April 18 last year. There was 4 per cent uptick in the average ticket size to Rs 13,559 in the jewellery category, as per the data from Worldline India.

Overall demand of jewellery and gold was around 20 per cent higher this time.

In the vehicles category, the number of transactions increased by 23 per cent and value of transactions went up by 10 per cent, though there was a decline in the average ticket size.

In the gift category, the number of transactions increased by 49 per cent and value of transactions increased by 54 per cent. The average ticket size rose by 3 per cent to Rs 1,409 over last Akshaya Tritiya.
