Housing units worth Rs 4.5 lakh crore stuck in top cities

NCR and Mumbai collectively account for the lion’s share of the total stuck housing units worth Rs 3,49,010 crore.

Chennai: Housing properties worth Rs 4,51,750 crore are stuck in various stages of non-completion across top seven cities. Mumbai and NCR together hold 72 per cent share of these delayed projects.

The top seven cities currently have a total stock of 5.6 lakh delayed housing units, which were launched either in 2013 when RERA was launched or before that.

NCR and Mumbai collectively account for the lion’s share of the total stuck housing units worth Rs 3,49,010 crore. The main southern cities of Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad together account for just 10 per cent of the overall stuck housing units. With 40,450 units Bengaluru is far better off than Pune with 86,700 units. Chennai has the least project delays with around 8,650 units worth Rs 5,620 crore, says Anuj Puri, Chairman, Anarock Property Consultants.
