Innovation, money key for food startups
Hyderabad: With food-focused startups mushrooming in most of the cities, restaurant majors have asked budding entrepreneurs to focus on niche products, if they wish to be successful.
“The recent phenomenon among food-focused entrepreneurs is to start restaurant aggregator as it is easy to start off. However, most of such startups are making losses,” said Mukesh Manda, the founder of TinMen, on the sidelines of an event organised by Foodies-In- Hyderabad at T-Hub. TinMen supplies home-cooked food for lunch.
According to a recent survey, many food startups especially in the delivery model have been incurring huge losses and high attrition. After the spread of IT sector in the city, many youngsters — who are passionate about food — are taking up food ventures along the lines American mobile food vans. Mr Suman B. from RiceBowl — a startup focused on budget range lunch — feels that other than thinking about money, food startups should also focus on customer satisfaction, innovation and most importantly focusing on a niche area rather than getting into all kinds of food categories.
