Skilling plays a pivotal role in sustainable employment
A sustainable employment in easy words is referred to extent of which workers are able and willing to remain productive in their respective jobs. This requires continuous upgrade in workers’ skills and upskill them to latest technology in machining and systems.
Equip yourself professionally or you will be outrun by millennials who are not only obsessed with their work, but are updating their skill sets while on the job. In this do-or-die situation that is galvanizing in India, gen next is busy working and at the same time polishing their knowledge and latest developments in their respective fields.
Many on-the-job workers are now taking courses either online or physically attending skills courses offered by mushrooming skill universities. And why not? It is definitely a chance to not only better you job prospects, but also because gives you an edge over others gunning for your designation.

To give a push to the skilling ecosystem, the government has proposed establishing the National Council for Vocational Education & Training, along with skills universities that will offer degrees like master and bachelor of skills. According to the draft norms, the universities will have specialized skill training labs, studios and centers of excellence developed in collaboration with industry. They will also have a counseling cell to assess the aptitude of students prior to their enrolment in a skill-based programme, apart from career counseling during their course.

Employment is at a low in our present economy. One of the best way is to develop and thrive in a particular skill according to your aptitude and qualification. This is where India’s domination over other countries lies. Some of the problems faced by the younger generation are:
Lack of specialisation courses in mainstream colleges and universities
Inability to focus on a particular skill
Lack of skilled labor to perform a specialized job where even computers fail to successfully perform the job. One of the example being the paint shop in a factory like Rolls Royce where the final process is taken care by humans and not robots.
