Maruti hikes car prices by up to Rs 34,500

Smart hybrid models are exempt from the infrastructure cess.

New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki said on Thursday that it has hiked ex-showroom prices of its vehicles between Rs 1,441 to Rs 34,494 across its models following imposition of infrastructure cess on automobiles in the Budget.

However as smart hybrid models are exempt from the infrastructure cess, there is no change in the prices of Ciaz SHVS and Ertiga SHVS.

“Following the infrastructure cess on automobiles in the Union Budget 2016-17... Prices of its models would go up in the range of Rs 1,441 to Rs 34,494 across its models,” Maruti Suzuki India said in a statement.

The government has decided to impose 2.5 per cent cess on diesel vehicles of length not exceeding four-metre and engine capacity not exceeding 1,500 cc while higher engine capacity and SUVs and bigger sedans were slapped with a cess of 4 per cent on the value of the car.

These are over and above a cess of 1 per cent on petrol/LPG/CNG driven vehicles of length not exceeding 4 meter and engine capacity not exceeding 1,200 cc.
