Andhra Pradesh government vaults over finance block

Files with financial implications may be sent to the Finance department but it has no authority to write any remarks.

Hyderabad: The AP government has made a move to pole-vault over objections put up by the Finance department to give various concessions and exemptions to several sectors like industries and businessmen worth thousands of crores of rupees.

To this effect, the state government has decided to amend the Secretariat business rules as the Finance department objects to granting concessions and exemptions like VAT, power tariff and others keeping in view the financial position of the state exchequer.

AP finance minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu held a meeting with General Administration Department secretary (political) N. Srikanth and principal secretary in Chief Minister’s office G. Sai Prasad and discussed the amendments to be brought to the Secretariat business rules.

The main amendment that the government is going to bring is that any file related to concessions and exemptions need not to be send to the Finance department for approval. Files with financial implications may be sent to the Finance department but it has no authority to write any remarks.

After N. Chandrababu Naidu became the Chief Minister in June 2014, the TD government has given concessions and exemptions to industries, businessmen and others worth thousands of crores of rupees. But for every concession or exemption proposed by the state government, the Finance department has been making negative comments on the files due to the state’s financial position.
