RBI soon to circulate Re 1 currency notes printed by central govt

This could be first direct participation of central govt in printing of notes since demonetisation.

Mumbai: The Reserve Bank of India has said that it will soon put into circulation new Re 1 currency notes printed by the government of India. This could be first direct participation of central government in printing of notes since demonetisation on November 8 last year.

"These currency notes are legal tender as provided in The Coinage Act 2011. The existing currency notes in this denomination in circulation will also continue to be legal tender," RBI said in a statement.

The RBi release further revealed that the Re1 note contains ‘भारत सरकार’ written above the words “Government of India” with the bilingual signature of Shaktikanta Das who is economic affairs secretary.

The note will also have a replica of New Rupee One coin with rupee symbol of 2017 issued with ‘सत्‍यमेव जयते’ and capital insert letter ‘L’ in numbering panel, the RBI said.

The numbering will be in black at right hand bottom portion of the note. Another feature of the note will be its colour that is going to be be predominantly pink green on obverse and reverse in combination with others.
