No question of roll back of demonetisation: Arun Jaitley

Refutes opposition's claims and says the 'anti-black money measure' was a well thought out plan.

Mumbai: Faced with stiff opposition to “the manner in which the demonetisation was being implemented” from the Congress and the Left parties, the government today went into the defensive mode.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley told the media persons that there is no question of rolling back the demonetisation decision which according to him was “a well thought out plan”.

“The printing of the new currency notes started much in advance,” he said while propelling opposition’s offensive alleging that the government did not do its home work properly before scrapping the Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes.

According to him banks have done a commendable job by reducing the crazy rush to the ATMs and banks within 7 days. The inconvenience to the common man was bound to happen for an operation of such a large scale, Jaitley said.

"The Congress instead of backing demonetisation is obstructing debate on it and drawing comparisons with Pakistan-sponsored terrorism," Jaitley said who also questioned what is the vested interest of the Congress party?
