HUDCO extends loan for drinking water project to Telangana govt

Agency also extending Rs 3,344 crore to two bedroom scheme being implemented for weaker section in State.

Hyderabad: State-owned Hudco today said it is extending Rs 4,750 crore loan to 'Mission Bhagiratha' project a Telangana government initiative for providing drinking water throughout the State.

Hudco CMD M Ravi Kanth said it is also extending Rs 3,344 crore to two bedroom scheme being implemented for weaker section in the State.

"Hudco over the years is providing shelter to homeless poor apart from extending assistance to civic infrastructure across the country. We are giving Rs 4,750 crore loan to Mission Bhagiratha and Rs 3,344 crore to the double bedroom housing scheme," Ravi Kanth told reporters here.

He said as many as 8.44 lakh houses were built with support from Hudco so far in Telangana of which 96 per cent are for Economically Weaker Section and Lower Income Group.

During the current year, the PSU has so far sanctioned a loan amount of Rs 3,230 crore towards various developmental schemes including purchase of buses by TSRTC, land acquisition scheme for establishment of 'National Investment and Manufacturing Zone' and EWS housing scheme by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.

Replying to a query, he said Hudco stopped lending to private projects in view of the mounting NPAs and focusses only on Government projects.

Meanwhile, Hudco sanctioned Rs 1.34 crore to TSRTC under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme for providing LED lighting systems at various bus depots across the state and head-quarters here.
