7th Pay Commission: After HRA, Centre may hike salary of govt staff to Rs 21,000

However, central government employees have been demanding a hike of Rs 25,000.

Mumbai: Days after offering a bonanza of hiked allowances to its employees, the central government is planning to raise their minimum salary from Rs 18,000 to Rs 21,000.

According to a report in OneIndia, the Modi government is considering hiking the minimum salary of central government employees. However, the demand is to increase the salary to Rs 25,000.

In June, the Union Cabinet had approved recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission with 34 modifications. The hiked allowances were implemented from July, affecting 48 lakh employees.

The increased allowances were based on the recommendations of the Committee on Allowances (CoA) set up to examine the recommendations of the Pay Commission. It led to the hike in HRAs of X,Y,Z category of cities and benefitted more than 7.5 lakh 1-3 levels of government employees.
