Users of fintech company PhonePe are peeved over a new message which conveyed charges would be collected from accounts of dormant PhonePe wallets. The message kicked up a debate on several social media platforms. Many users are wondering if parking money in the wallet was really a crime.

PhonePe is sending messages about imposing charges on inactive wallets. The message said that Rs 100 would be collected every 3 months. The company says that it had informed about the charges in its terms and conditions but users said that the Terms and Conditions did not mention about how much charge would be collected from the dormant wallets.

The PhonePe message also conveyed that they were sending notification alert to the users 15 days before taking action. PhonePe has become a part of life as numerous people do their UPI transactions on the app. Some even switched to UPI Lite on PhonePe, leading to drastic fall in the usage of PhonePe Wallet.

Some people do not have any clue about the last time they used the PhonePe wallet. Charging users of dormant wallets is equal to looting, said some netizens. A few others tagged the Payments Corporation of India and faulted PhonePe's decision.
