Noel Tata among top names for Tata Sons chairman
Mumbai: As the search committee formed to look out for a new Tata Sons chairman has stepped up its efforts, a new name has cropped up for the said job at the iconic Bombay House in the posh Fort area in Mumbai.
The Economic Times reported that Noel Tata, half brother of Tata Group patriarch Ratan Tata, counts among the strong insider names along with Tata Consultancy Chairman N Chandrasekharan and Ralph Speth of Jaguar Land Rover for coveted job.
In 2011, Noel’s name had cropped up for the said job at the $103 billion salt-to-software conglomerate but he was neglected as according to Ratan Tata “Noel did not have enough exposure at that time”.
Noel also comes with a vast experience in running a few of Tata Group firms. He has been at the helm of Trent — retail arm of the Tata Group for over a decade. He is said to have turned Trent into a profitable business since overtaking and partnered with Tesco despite volatile environment, The Economic Times reported.
