Telangana in top 3 markets for TVs, phones: Amazon

Ranjit Babu, director, smartphones, Amazon India said his company is witnessing the premiumisation of the market

Hyderabad: Aspirational lifestyle and easy financing schemes have boosted people’s demand for premium products, giving a double-digit growth to the online market.

“Telangana has shown remarkable growth witnessing 2x demand for televisions and an increase of more than 60 per cent in 5G smartphones being sold during the festive period, making it one of the top-performing regions in the TV and smartphone categories for Amazon India,” said Ranjit Babu, director, smartphones and televisions, Amazon India.

He said his company is witnessing the premiumisation of the market, where people are buying high-end mobiles and large screen televisions.

“Telangana is one of the top three markets for mobiles and televisions. The others being Delhi and Maharashtra,” he explained.

Among cities, Delhi, Bengaluru and Hyderabad are Amazon’s top three markets for mobiles and televisions in terms of value.

Ranjit Babu, who was in Hyderabad to unveil ‘Amazon Great Indian Festival 2023’ at Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad with the ‘Amazon Xperience Arena’ (AXA) on Thur-sday, said the demand for premium products has improved because of schemes such as no cost EMI among others.

He said more people are upgrading to 5G handsets in Hyderabad as the share of 5G smartphones grew to over 65 per cent in October 2023 during the festive period compared to 40 per cent in 2022.

According to Amazon, the sale of smartphones witnessed a double digit growth, mainly driven by 4G to 5G upgrades.

During the ongoing Festival, he said top bestseller models across Hyderabad are iPhone 13, OnePlus Nord CE 3 lite 5G, iQOO Z7 Pro 5G, OnePlus 11R 5G, Samsung Galaxy M14 5G and Redmi 12 5G.

In television space, he said Telangana emerged as the fastest-growing market for Amazon India in July-Sept. quarter and consistently ranked the number one with Hyderabad being amongst top three cities for TV sales pan India.

Customers are showing a stronger preference for 4K TVs, he said.
