Social media helps Poompuhar to up sales
Chennai: With e-commerce and social media helping to reach out to the global market, the Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd, popularly known as Poompuhar, has set a highest sales target for 2016-17 after tasting success last year.
The corporation’s effort to tap the global market through e-commerce and social media like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Linkedln, Pinterest, blogs and slide shows have shown results as is evidenced by the response by the online community, said Khadi and village industries minister G. Baskaran after tabling his department’s the policy note for 2016-17 in the Assembly.
“The total post reach metrics was 9,08,294. These expanded marketing strategies have emboldened the corporation to set a highest sales target for the year 2016-17,” he said.
The e-commerce site www.poompuhar.org is functioning since November 15, 2014 and order worth of Rs 9.56 lakh have been executed online, he noted.
The corporation has shown tremendous growth in its annual turnover since its inception, he said, adding that it has achieved a turnover of Rs 34.68 crore during 2015-16, which is the highest turnover since inception of the corporation. It had earned a net profit of Rs 78.37 lakh (unaudited) in the last fiscal year.
