Request or send cash while chatting on FB messenger with PayPal

PayPal has enabled its US users to exchange money while chatting on Facebook Messenger.

San Francisco: In the latest addition to the rise in digital transactions across the world, payment getaway PayPal has launched the facility of sending and requesting money via Facebook Messenger.

According to a report by IANS, PayPal’s move to enable its users to exchange money while chatting on Facebook Messenger, will be more convenient for people in various contexts.

In India, messenger app Hike already allows the same with its peer-to-peer (P2P) payments system, launched earlier this year. Facebook-owned Whatsapp is also reportedly in the process of rolling out the facility for its users.

PayPal is a leading P2P payments app with USD 24 billion in P2P volume during the third quarter of 2017 alone, reported IANS. "Whether it's splitting a bill for a cab ride or a night out, paying for your share of the rent, or making sure you get paid back for mom's birthday present, PayPal makes exchanging money between friends and family simple," the company said in a statement late Friday.

In 2016, PayPal tied up with Facebook Messenger to allow more than 2.5 million US customers to to shop on Messenger using PayPal and enable Messenger as a means of communication between PayPal users.

When chatting on Messenger, one can tap on the blue plus icon and select the green payments button to quickly send or request money.

"In addition to enabling P2P payments with PayPal in Messenger, we are also introducing our first-ever PayPal customer service bot for Messenger, so PayPal customers can seamlessly receive payment and account support directly in the app," said Bill Ready, Chief Operating Officer, PayPal.
