Kolkata: Telecom major Airtel on August 11 announced launch of 4G service in Kharagpur, becoming the first operator to unveil the service in Bengal telecom circle using dual spectrum bands of 2300 MHz (TD LTE) and 1800 MHz.
"We are the first operator to commercially launch 4G in Kharagpur, second in the state after Kolkata and the first town in the Bengal telecom circle. Over the next 10 weeks, we will cover about 30 towns in the state," Airtel CEO (West Bengal and Odisha) Ravindra Singh Negi told PTI.
The company claimed that the combination of TD LTE and FD LTE ensures higher network capacity, which translates into a superior customer experience. This also makes Kharagpur amongst the few cities in India to have an integrated dual band 4G network.
Negi declined to speak about investment on 4G rollout.
Airtel, in November 2015, had commenced the implementation of Project Leap, its network transformation program, with a national investment of Rs 60,000 crore over the next three years....
