IndiGo first Indian carrier to induct fuel-efficient A320neo

The eco-friendly, fuel-efficient aircraft A320neo is being delivered to the Gurgaon-based carrier after a delay of nearly three months.

New Delhi: The country's largest airline by market share IndiGo is all set to take delivery of its maiden new engine technology aircraft A320neo, becoming the first domestic carrier to have such a plane in its fleet.

The eco-friendly, fuel-efficient aircraft A320neo (new engine option) is being delivered to the Gurgaon-based carrier after a delay of nearly three months.

"Big moment! IndiGo is accepting delivery of Asia's first #ecofriendly @Airbus #A320neo today! (sic)," IndiGo tweeted today.

"Less is more. Our new#ecofriendly @Airbus #A320neo burns less fuel&makes less noise. Can't wait for takeoff," it said in another tweet.

The European aircraft maker Airbus claims the new engine technology aircraft burns 10-15 per cent less fuel than the existing versions. IndiGo, which got listed on the bourses last October, was scheduled to start induction of these planes in December last year.

Airbus had, however, in December informed IndiGo about the possible delay in delivery. IndiGo had in 2011 announced it would acquire 180 A320s including 150 A320 neos, the largest aircraft order by any Indian carrier at that time.
