Supreme Court rejects PIL against Reliance Jio

Writing the judgment Justice Sikri said “All across the board those holding BWA spectrum became entitled to migrate to UL''.

New Delhi: Holding that no rule has been violated in the grant of 4G spectrum license to Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd, the Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a public interest litigation challenging the grant of license.

Giving this ruling a three-judge Bench of Chief Justice T.S. Thakur and Justices A.K. Sikri and R. Banumathi, said “when license was delinked from the spectrum and having auctioned spectrum by allowing those who did not possess license to bid, it became necessary for the government to come out with a regime for grant of licenses for providing various telecom services.”

Writing the judgment Justice Sikri said “All across the board those holding BWA spectrum became entitled to migrate to UL and, therefore, there is no discrimination on the part of the government nor it aims at undue favoritism to Jio.”
