Godrej to set up Rs 250 crore edible oil processing plant in Telangana

Hyderabad: Godrej Agrovet Ltd., the country’s largest oil palm plantation company, will invest Rs 250 crore in Telangana by setting up a state-of-the-art edible oil processing plant in Khammam district.

The proposed 30 TPH plant, which will also process palm oil, is expandable to 60 TPH. This will mark the single largest private investment in Khammam district.

A press release issued by the industries minister's office here on Thursday, stated that Balram Singh Yadav, managing director of Godrej Agrovet Ltd met industries minister K.T. Rama Rao and informed him about the investment plans of Godrej Agrovet Ltd. Yadav said that this was one of the many initiatives under consideration across various business verticals.

Godrej Agrovet plans to operate the proposed facility at full-scale by 2025-26. The factory will be self-sufficient in power requirement with a cogeneration plant. Palm Oil farmers will be serviced through ten Godrej Samadhan centres, including an existing one and nine in the pipeline. Currently, Godrej is present across 10 mandals in Khammam and Bhadradri Kothagudem districts.

To enhance productivity, they will deploy digital assets including satellite and drone-tracking of areas under cultivation, image-based crop advisory services, farmer apps and sapling portals in the region.

The company’s business in Khammam and Kothagudem districts, including the processing facility, will lead to direct employment of 250 personnel and double that in indirect employment.

As a means to support farmers, they will improve productivity through a range of innovative products and services. Other than oil palm plantations, these include animal feed, aqua feed, agrochemicals, poultry processing and dairy products.

Telangana has set itself an ambitious goal of expanding palm oil plantation to 20 lakh acres. The state government is aggressively promoting palm oil plantations to reduce dependence on imported oil. The aggressive push over the last few years has resulted in a yellow revolution (increase in oil seeds production) in Telangana, the release said.
