MCL becomes No 1 coal producer of India in FY 2016
Bhubaneswar: Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) said that it has become the top coal producer in the country by producing a record 138 mt of dry fuel in the financial year 2015-16, contributing 39 per cent to the incremental growth of Coal India Limited. The MCL that celebrates Silver Jubilee Foundation Day today started its journey in 1992 as a 23 mt coal producing company and the youngest subsidiary of CIL, MCL said in a statement.
The year ended March 31, 2016, remained an eventful year for MCL as it has become the flagship subsidiary of CIL, it said. While MCL produced a record 137.9 mt coal at a growth rate of 13.6 per cent, it supplied 140.22 mt dry fuel to its consumers, registering an outstanding growth of 14 per cent compared to same period during previous financial year 2014 for evacuation of coal. Congratulating all members of MCL family, Chairman and Managing Director A K Jha said the performance graph of the company would continue to show a northward trend in coal production, dispatch as well as contribution towards growth and development of peripheral areas. Former CMDs of the company Dr A S Prasad, S N Sharma, S R Upadhayay and A N Sahay, who had joined MCL's foundation celebrations, congratulated Team MCL for becoming the leading coal producer of the country.
"The dream we had for MCL, has come true," said S N Sharma while addressing a gathering. MCL employees and their family members joined a Run for Excellence this morning to mark the beginning of company's Silver Jubilee year, the release said. As a part of Foundation Day celebrations, a brain storming session on "IT interventions for participative, transparent and responsive governance" was organised. A series of programmes to create awareness on various central government projects, performance analysis within the company, promotion of art and culture are part of Silver Jubilee celebrations of the company, the release said.
