Amazon plans to open its 2nd centre in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: While the industrial sector is worried over the impact of e-commerce on the offline retail sector, I-T experts say that while jobs are lost in the offline sector, they will be created in the online sector.

FTAPCCI senior vice-president Anil Reddy said online shopping increased by about 200 per cent in the city last year and offline shopping during the festival season fell by 50 per cent.

“There are chances that jobs in the offline shopping sector will fall,” he said.

Telangana I-T Association founder president Sundeep Kumar Maktala said there was no threat to jobs in the offline sector due to the arrival of online shopping sites.

“E-commerce sites generate employment in the non-technical sector and employees in the offline shopping sector can find jobs there,” he said.

Amazon has one of its largest fulfillment centres in the state and is planning to open another 30 lakh sq.ft site. It is to open a research and development unit at Gachibowli. Flipkart will set up its largest warehouse at 2.2 lakh sq.ft in Hyderabad.

Swedish furniture major IKEA has bought 13 acres of land near Hyderabad. Sales Force is coming up on a 2-lakh sq.ft area.
