BMW Brings its First Ever i5 LWB at Rs 79.6 Lakh
The brand’s first locally produced electric sedan is assembled at BMW Group’s Chennai plant. The automaker said the First Edition limited to 99 units has already been sold out before the launch.
Pune: BMW, the German luxury car maker, has introduced the i5 Long Wheelbase, an electric sedan in eDrive35L M Sport and First Edition trims, both priced at Rs 79.60 lakh.

“Our first locally produced electric sedan brings together the two strongest pillars of our future growth: electrification and long wheelbase luxury,” said Hardeep Singh Brar, President and CEO at BMW Group India.
The first-ever BMW i5 Long Wheelbase sets a new benchmark for the modern executive sedan and redefines what customers can expect from electric luxury mobility, he said, adding that BMW was not entering a segment but creating one.
The extended wheelbase helps liberate more legroom for rear-seat passengers. The car also gets adaptive air suspension and rides on 20-inch M alloy wheels.

The i5 LWB uses an 81.6 kWh battery pack, and provides a claimed range of 669 km under the MIDC test cycle. It powers an electric motor that delivers 264 BHP, and 410 Nm of torque, allowing the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 6.7 seconds and it has a top speed of 195kph.
The i5 LWB supports up to 160kW DC fast charging, with BMW claiming a 10-80 per cent charge time of 33 minutes. It supports AC charging at up to 11kW and comes with a BMW Wallbox charger, including installation.
The i5 LWB comes with the BMW Curved Display, which houses a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch touchscreen, a panoramic glass roof, vegan leather upholstery with active seat ventilation at the front, a 4-zone automatic climate control system and a Bowers & Wilkins sound system.
The i5 LWB First Edition offers a rear-seat entertainment package that includes a tablet and tablet holder. It has BMW Individual Silver Bronze accent combined with Fineline open-pored fine-wood trim and Silver Bronze inlay, ‘First Edition’ laser engraving on the dashboard trim, and a Carbon Black Metallic exterior with Titanium Bronze accents.
The i5 LWB’s main rival is the Japanese Lexus ES 500e, priced at Rs 91.2 lakh. The ES 500e uses a smaller 74.68kWh battery, produces 343hp and 438Nm and has a claimed range of 580km.
