Robust Double-Digit Vehicle Sales Set Strong Festive Tone Ahead

Pune: The Indian automobile industry logged its strongest-ever July sales record across passenger vehicles, two-wheelers and three-wheelers, setting a strong festive tone ahead in the world’s third biggest car market, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers or Siam said on Thursday.

Passenger vehicle (PV) dispatches, the barometer of the economy, factory gates to dealers rose 34.3 per cent year-on-year (YoY) to 4.58 lakhs in July, compared to 3.41 lakhs in July 2025.

In the PV segment, utility vehicles continued to account for the largest share with volumes rising 29.2 per cent to 2.48 lakh units from 1.93 lakh units a year earlier. Passenger car sales, however, grew faster, climbing 37.6 per cent to 1.32 lakh units from 96,207 units. Van sales increased 12.6 per cent to 13,896 units.

Among two wheelers, motorcycle sales increased 20.7 per cent to 10.74 lakh units, while scooter sales grew 23.7 per cent to 7.98 lakh units. Moped sales recorded the highest growth at 48.6 per cent, reaching 50,497 units.

Total two-wheeler sales jumped 22.6 per cent to 19.23 lakh units as against 15.69 lakh units in July last year.

Three-wheeler dispatches to dealers were up 33.4 per cent last month at 92,560 units, as against 69,403 units in the year-ago period, Siam said.

The industry at large across segments dispatched a total of 33.71 lakh units during the month.

Siam said exports also rose 25.1 per cent to 6.77 lakh units from 5.41 lakh units in the same period last year.

"India's auto industry delivered its strongest-ever July sales, with robust double-digit growth across passenger vehicles, three-wheelers and two-wheelers,” said Rajesh Menon, Director General at Siam.

“This positive momentum, sustained over several months, has continued as the industry enters the festive season with expectations of strong consumer sentiment, setting the stage for another important phase of demand after the strong July performance," he noted.
