Classic Legends Revamps Jawa Brand With New 42 FJ Bike
Pune: Classic Legends, a Mahindra Group-owned premium motorcycle firm, on Tuesday introduced the new Jawa 42 FJ motorcycle, marking another milestone in its effort to resurrect legacy brands.
The 42 FJ is priced starting at Rs 1.99 lakh, aiming to strike a balance between design, price, and performance.
The Jawa 42 FJ competes with models like the Royal Enfield Classic 350, which recently received an update.
Addressing the launch event in Mumbai, Group Chairman Anand Mahindra emphasized that stories are the backbone of successful brands. “We are running a marathon. We may fall, we may sweat, but we will rise up," Mahindra stated, highlighting the firm's perseverance in building the iconic Jawa brand.
Anupam Thareja, Co-founder of Jawa Yezdi Motorcycles, expressed their ambition to make Classic Legends a global two-wheeler entity.
“The company is well-positioned in India's premium motorcycle segment and aims to secure the top slot soon,” he noted.
The new Jawa 42 FJ is powered by a bigger 334cc engine derived from the new Jawa 350 and produces a higher figure of 29.1hp and 29.6Nm, slightly more than the Jawa 350, which has 22.2 BHP and 28.1 Nm. The engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox via a slip-and-assist clutch.
The 42 FJ has a seat height of 790mm, 178mm ground clearance and a weight of 184kg which is 2kg more than the regular Jawa 42. It is also worth noting that the 42 FJ produces 2hp and 3Nm more than the standard Jawa 42.
The overall design of the Jawa 42 FJ is similar to the standard Jawa 42. It has a circular LED headlamp, a single-pod instrument console, a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, and a single-piece seat.
The Jawa 42 FJ is equipped with a telescopic fork at the front and has dual shock absorbers at the rear. Customers get the option of either spoked or alloy wheels, while braking is handled by discs at both ends supported by dual-channel ABS.
