India-bound Jeep Compass unveiled

The India-spec Jeep Compass SUV will be powered by a 2.0-litre Fiat Multijet II diesel motor powering up to 172 hp.

The Jeep Compass gets officially revealed, ahead of its launch next year. Having introduced the Jeep Wrangler and the Jeep Grand Cherokee at cheap CBU prices, the Jeep wants to launch its third SUV, the Jeep Compass, which will retail in the premium SUV prices in India.

A few of the leaked images had also surfaced before the actual reveal of the SUV. The Jeep Compass still looks high-end, though it is much toned down from the Grand Cherokee, also due to its price.

The front profile doesn’t look that greatly inspiring but the headlights, fog lamp provisions, etc. look very attractive. The alloy wheels look pretty and sophisticated, while it also a simple and a little bland side profile.

The wheel-arches look a little boxy-cut but we, in India, prefer that it be a little carved out or sculpted. However, it is probably suitable for the body design of the Jeep Compass. Yet, one can expect dual-tone exteriors and chrome-accents as well on top-spec variants.

Also, expect multimedia in the form of an 8-inch screen with U-Connect infotainment system. It is also likely to get push button start as well as automatic climate control.

The India-spec Jeep Compass SUV will be powered by a 2.0-litre Fiat Multijet II diesel motor powering up to 172 hp. Internationally, the Jeep Compass will be available with 17 engine options in over 100 countries across the globe. Some of them will be left-hand drives, while petrol engines will also be on offer in other countries. A four-wheel drive with locking differential will also be offered internationally.

Assembling of the Jeep Compass will take place at the Fiat’s Ranjangaon facility close to Pune, while the SUV will be available in four trims as the Sport, Longitude, Limited and Trailhawk. The Jeep Compass is expected to be a value for money buy with an anticipated price of around Rs. 20 lakh for the top of the line variant.
