Vitara Brezza waiting period to reduce; production ramped up
The Vitara Brezza recently overtook the Bolero and the Creta to become India's largest-selling SUV. The popularity has resulted into waiting periods that are spanning up to eight months in certain cities. To tackle this Maruti will be increasing the production of the Brezza for the second time. Maruti Suzuki will produce 10,000 units of the Brezza from July. To accommodate the increased production of the compact SUV the automaker is cutting back on the production of the Swift and the Swift Dzire.
The Vitara Brezza has been writing its own success story in the country. Within a few days of its launch, the SUV had managed to grab 40,000 bookings. Furthermore, it dislodged the Hyundai Creta, which was otherwise enjoying its unrivalled position in the market, from the throne. Last week, Maruti increased the production of the Baleno in order to combat the six to eight months waiting period. In May itself, Maruti had decided to increase the production of these two cars (the Baleno and the Brezza), courtesy their growing demand. After witnessing an overwhelming response at the Expo, Maruti had to revise its producing plan -- from 80,000 units of the Brezza per year to 1,00,000 units a year.
The Vitara Brezza is priced between Rs 7 to 9.7 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It only comes with a diesel engine option -- a 1.3-litre DDiS200. This engine is not exactly powerful, but has a class leading fuel economy of 24.3kmpl. Watch the expert review of the Vitara Brezza to know what makes this car India’s largest-selling SUV.
