Toyota records more than 9 million Hybrid sales

The hybrid revolution started with the Prius, which was launched in December 1997 in Japan and then subsequently in Europe and America.

In a recent announcement, Toyota Motor Corporation declared that the company has recorded sales of 9 million hybrid vehicles. As on April 30, the Japanese car maker has recorded sales of 9.014 million units.

The hybrid revolution started with the Prius, which was launched in December 1997 in Japan and then subsequently in Europe and America. The automaker highlighted that the use of Toyota hybrid vehicles instead of the conventional vehicles of similar size and performance has resulted in approximately sixty seven million lesser tonnes of CO2 emissions and approximately saved twenty five million kilolitres of gasoline (petrol). Toyota is currently selling thirty-three hybrid passenger car models and one plug-in hybrid (PHV) model in more than ninety countries and regions (including India).

Speaking of India, the company since 2010 has been retailing the third generation Prius in the country. But the latest fourth generation vehicle made its public debut at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo and is expected to be launched in the coming months. Besides the Prius, the automaker also retails the locally assembled Camry Hybrid. Recently, the Camry hybrid received a whopping over Rs 2 lakhs price drop in the capital. The slash is the result of the Delhi Government’s reduction of excise duty on hybrid and electric cars from twenty-four to 12.5 per cent.
