Tata to launch the Hexa On Jan 16, 2017
Tata's latest flagship SUV, the Hexa, will soon hit Indian roads. Tata hasn't announced an official launch date yet, however, some inside sources suggest that the SUV's prices will be revealed on January 16, 2017. It is likely to be priced between Rs 12-16 lakh, and will compete with the Mahindra XUV500 and Toyota Innova Crysta.
Powering the Hexa is the same 2.2-litre Varicor400 turbo-diesel engine that propels the Tata Safari storm. Producing 156PS of power and 400Nm of torque, this engine will come paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed automatic transmission. A 4x2 drivetrain will come as standard for both, the automatic and manual variants, while the manual will be offered with 4x4 as well. A 4x4 AT version is also being developed, but will not be available at launch. Bookings will begin on November 1 and the range will include the following variants:
- XE (7-seater)
- XM (7-seater)
- XT (6/7-seater)
- XMA (7-seater)
- XTA (6-seater)
- XT 4x4 (6-seater)
No matter the powertrain chosen, the Hexa comes with driver-selectable drive mode. The automatic gets Eco and Sport modes, while the manual is available with the four 'Super Drive Modes' – Comfort, Dynamic, Rough Road and Auto. Depending on the mode chosen, the system alters the behaviour of the all-wheel drive system, how the ESP intervenes and how the engine delivers its performance.
The crossover is based on the same hydroformed X2 platform as the Aria and offers a long list of features, including a 5-inch touchscreen infotainment interface, a 10-speaker sound system by JBL, 6 airbags, faux-leather upholstery and automatic climate control. Given the established competitors the Hexa faces, you can expect Tata to price and promote the model aggresively.
