Tata hikes prices by up to Rs 12k

Tata Motors said that the prices of raw materials such as steel and zinc have gone up, prompting the company to take such a step.

Due to the increasing input costs, automakers in India are hiking the prices of their products. Tata Motors has also followed in the same footsteps and recently increased the prices across the range of its products by up to Rs 12,000.

Just like other manufacturers, who have taken similar decisions lately, Tata Motors said that the prices of raw materials such as steel and zinc have gone up, prompting the company to take such a step.

Tata’s portfolio in India includes a variety of products, ranging from the entry-level Nano to the crossover Aria, with prices stretching between the Rs 2.15 lakh-Rs 16.3 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) bracket.

Tata has most recently launched the Tiago hatchback, debuting its new design language for cars. The Tiago has helped the home-grown automaker record heartening sales numbers in the recent past. The company is now readying the launch of the Hexa that will replace the Aria and will be the next step in Tata Motors’ portfolio revamp.

Speaking of other carmakers, country’s top two manufacturers - Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai Motor India – have both gone on to increase prices across their portfolios by Rs 20,000.

Tata’s domestic rival Mahindra & Mahindra had also announced a rise in prices by up to one per cent last month, effective from the month of October.
