Cleveland CycleWerks to begin India operations from this October
Cleveland CycleWerks, the motorcycle company that made its Indian debut at the Auto Expo 2018, is set to launch two new motorcycles in India this October. The Ace and Misfit will be available through the CKD route in India and assembled at the company’s plant in Pune. Expect a price tag nearing Rs 2 lakh to 2.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Misfit is the sportier offering of the two, with a cafe racer like design, sculpted fuel tank, low clip-on handlebars and aggressive riding ergonomics. The Ace, on the other hand, has an old-school charm with a traditional teardrop-shaped fuel tank and a minimal design. As we saw at the Auto Expo, Cleveland will offer the Ace in three different variants - Ace Deluxe, Ace Cafe and the Ace Scrambler.
Powering both the motorcycles is the same 229cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine, which delivers 15.4PS of power at 7000rpm and 16Nm of torque at 6000rpm. This motor is originally manufactured in China by the Lifan Group, using Honda CG series' design. While the power figures may seem unimpressive, given the Ace's kerb weight of 136kg, we expect a decent performance from the motorcycle.
The Ace uses a conventional diamond type frame where the engine acts as a stressed member, whereas the Misfit has a tubular dual-cradle unit. Suspension duties on both the bikes are handled by USD forks at the front and a twin hydraulic shock at the rear, with 5-stage preload adjustability. Braking is taken care of by a single 298mm disc at the front and a 210mm disc at the rear.
The motorcycles will compete against the UM Renegade Sports, priced at Rs 1.64 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and the upcoming UM Renegade Duty S.
