Kia Motors to start trial production at AP unit
Anantapur: Kia Motors India, the world’s 8th largest automaker, is all set to start trial production at the Erramanchi unit in Penukonda mandal in the district on January 29. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and several top heads of Kia Motors will take part in the trial production ceremony.
The car manufacturing unit is said to be a major achievement of the state government and construction of the unit was done speedily since one and a half years with a target to release cars into the Indian markets this year.
Kia Motors India had also entered a Memora-ndum of Understanding (MoU) with the state of Andhra Pradesh to collaborate on the ‘partnership for future eco mobility’. The partnership reinforces Kia’s commitment to support the government in growing the uptake of electric vehicles (EV) and the development of a local EV infrastructure in the coming days, it is learnt.
Kia official Jude interacted with collector G. Veerapandian and also invited the district officials for the occasion.
The collector had a review meeting with district officials on Wednesday to make necessary arrangements.
Penukonda and surrounding parts located on NH 44 is turning out to be a Korean township following ongoing construction of the mega car manufacturing unit in the district.
In addition to Kia Motors India cars manufacturing unit, more than 19 ancillary units will be established in nearby locations.
The Korean township is being developed over 12.60 acres of land near Duddebanda close to Kia motors manufacturing unit.
More than 82 buildings in 16 complexes are under construction and will be part of the township. Official sources said most of the works were completed and scheduled to be completed by next year on a war footing.
In addition, the state government has allocated Krishna water from Gollapalli reservoir at an estimated Rs 22 crore. A separate pipeline is being laid from Gollapalli reservoir to the site.
