Polarity launches six electric bicycles in India

Spotted testing for the first time, this electric bicycle is set to launch in the next couple of months.
  • The e-bike is capable of touching a claimed speed of around 100kmph.
  • Its lithium ion battery pack should be good for a range of 80km.
  • Will comply with FAME-II norms, hinting at an electric hub motor rated at 250W or above.
  • It gets premium kit like upside-down forks, a small TFT screen, switchgear and more!

Polarity has launched six all-electric bicycles in India. The lineup is divided into two categories: Sport and Executive. While the S1K, S2K, S3K comes under the Sport lineup and are priced between Rs 40,000 to Rs 1.1 lakh, the E1K, E2K and E3K come under the Executive range and are priced from Rs 38,000 to Rs 1.05 lakh (all prices ex-showroom). Polarity has already commenced pre-bookings for these e-bicycles for a token amount of Rs 1,001. Deliveries of the e-bicycles will only begin in the first quarter of 2020.

While more details are yet to come, we did manage to get a few images of the bike which reveal a couple of interesting details. For starters, it features a slim custom frame which is likely to feature a lithium-ion battery pack mounted in between. It is paired with fat upside-down forks and a monoshock linked to a bike-type swingarm. It also gets a small TFT/LCD screen, proper switchgear, an LED headlight, taillight and turn indicators. A rear hub motor powers the bike, while disc brakes at the front and rear help bring it to a halt.

Reportedly, the new e-bike also complies with FAME-II regulations which means that it will come equipped with an electric motor rated above 250W. This also means that you’ll have to register it as an electric vehicle, but you could also use it as a conventional cycle without any assistance from the motor.

To draw a comparison, the current crop of e-bikes available in the Indian market such as the Hero Ezephyr, Tronx One, GoZero and others are more towards the cycle end of the spectrum rather than a bike. In other words, the electric motors on these cycles only make life a bit simpler by providing pedal assist and a limited range of up to 50km on a single charge.

At present, this e-bike from Polarity is still in its prototype phase. Expect this smart e-bike to retail for around Rs 60,000 in the Indian market. Once launched, the new e-bike from Polarity will be the first of its kind in India which will also open up new avenues in the electric bike segment.
