Mahindra's 155cc Bike Spied Testing

The spied bike reveals more details about the said product which is expected to be launched later this year.

The 155cc motorcycle from Mahindra has been again spotted testing. Soon after Mahindra launched the Gusto 125, it was reported that the company would introduce a 150cc commuter bike in India. The spied bike reveals more details about the said product which is expected to be launched later this year.

The upcoming commuter bike gets a basic barebones design which focuses purely on the utility factor. The fuel tank has been carried over from the Centuro, the company's existing offering, however, the trademark golden pipes underneath have been given the boot. It's got a flatter seat which gives more space for two people to fit comfortably and the rear gets a luggage carrier also. However, the side panels are made out of fibre and their main purpose is to hide the battery box and air filter.

On the exterior, the 155cc commuter features a round headlamp, twin-pod instrument cluster, round rear-view mirrors, and 18" spoke wheels, but the company might also offer alloy wheels as optional extras. The suspension setup comprises of telescopic front forks and non-adjustable dual shocks at the rear. The brakes on the test mule are drums but an optional front disc variant can also be expected.

Speaking about power, the upcoming Mahindra is powered by a 155cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine which produces around 12PS of power. It will be BS-IV emission norms-compliant, as it is mandatory for new bikes launched in the country after April 1, 2016.

It appears that Mahindra is trying to do the same thing that Bajaj tried with the Boxer 150: trying to tap into a basic 150cc commuter market in rural areas. How much success it garners is just a matter of time now.
