Yamaha to debut 2017 YZF-R6 at Intermot next month
A new teaser has been released by Yamaha. It has been posted on Yamaha's website and social media accounts and features shots of a supersport bike moving fast on a race track. It is difficult to identify the motorbike, but there are a few hints that suggest that the motorbike could be the 2017 Yamaha YZF-R6. The teaser video also suggests that the bike could be unveiled on October 4, 2016. The press conference of the international motorcycle, scooter and e-bike fair known as Intermot is scheduled on the same day. The event will be held in Cologne, Germany and we can expect Yamaha to debut the new YZF-R6 there.
The screaming sound note of the engine in the teaser video affirms that it is an inline-four-powered motorcycle. And Yamaha already updated the litre-class YZF-R1 less than two years ago. So the only supersport bike with a four-cylinder engine that remains in the Japanese automaker's line-up is the YZF-R6. Another fact indicating the debut of the new R6 is a post by Valentino Rossi on his social media with the caption, “Shot on board with GoPro on Yamaha R6.” It is no secret that the MotoGP rider is partly responsible for the development of many Yamaha bikes and the one in this new picture seems like a prototype of the upcoming R6.
The 2017 Yamaha R6 is expected to get heavy cosmetic updates, while the company could use the existing crossplane-based motor with some upgrades. The new version will be Euro-4 compliant and its performance might be improved as well. Other features of the upcoming bike will be revealed on October 4. Till then, we can only wait for some other interesting updates on the same.
