TVS Scooters: which one is for you?

With the NTorq it also marked its entry into the 125cc segment.

It began with the TVS scooty in the 1990’s when it became a hit among riders, so much so that its name has been used to denote the whole genre of scooters. However, not resting on their laurels, the Hosur-based manufacturer has added several new scooters to its range, such as the Jupiter and Wego to challenge the supremacy of the Honda Activa. With the NTorq it also marked its entry into the 125cc segment, but which one of these is the apt one for you?

TVS Scooty Pep+: Rs 40,450

The TVS Scooty Pep+ is the most affordable scooter from the Hosur-based manufacturer. Despite being an entry-level scooter, it is packed with features like mobile phone charging socket on the apron, open glove box mounted on the apron, hooks and a side stand alarm.

Its light kerb weight of just 95kg makes it one of the easiest handling scooters in the segment. Consequently, it will be ideal for those who are looking for an easily maneuverable scooter for their city runabouts. However, its design is bound to appeal more to women than men. It employs an 87.8cc single-cylinder Advanced Ecothrust Engine that’s good for 5PS of power at 6500rpm and 5.8Nm of torque at 4000rpm. The scooter is priced from Rs 40,450 (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the Refresh Series.

TVS Scooty Zest 110: Rs 48,394

While the Scooty Pep+ is agile, it runs short on power, and that’s where the TVS Scooty Zest 110 comes into play. With a bigger 109.7cc single cylinder CVTi engine, the Zest packs 7.9PS and 8.4Nm arriving at 7500rpm and 5500rpm, respectively. TVS also claims it is the fastest in its segment, with the 0-60kmph sprint taking just 11.1 seconds.

Moreover, it is also quite practical, thanks to the large 19-litre underseat storage, which also gets a USB phone charger. The Matte series features an LED light for the storage space as well. The Scooty Zest 110 is perfect for those who want the dynamics of a Scooty and the power of a 110cc scooter. Its price starts from Rs 48,394 (ex-showroom Delhi) for the Himalayan Highs Series.

TVS Wego: Rs 50,515

The TVS Wego comes with a more modern design and a full metal body. Additionally, the scooter also features a digital instrument cluster with service reminder, low fuel indicator, low battery indicator and trip meter. For optimum ride quality, TVS has equipped the Wego with telescopic front forks and a rear gas-charged monoshock. Considering its design and features, the scooter is ideal for those who are young at heart, and want a subtle, practical but elegant-looking 110cc scooter.

TVS Jupiter: Rs 50,566

The TVS Jupiter takes the fight to the country’s best-selling scooter, the Honda Activa. Armed with practical features such as Dura Cool seat (ZX variant), sheet metal body, pass-by switch, external fuel filler, Econometer with Eco and Power indicators, this scooter is a well-loaded alternative to Honda’s cash cow. The Jupiter has the same powertrain and mechanicals as the Wego.

The ZX variant comes with more premium looking beige plastics. In a bid to woo classic scooter enthusiasts, TVS also launched the Jupiter Classic Edition in August last year. It features a windscreen, chromed rear view mirrors, a premium seat with cushioned backrest.

TVS NTorq: Rs 59,650

With the NTorq, TVS wants to attract millenials who love seamless integration of various technology within a two-wheeler. In a first for any scooter in its segment, the NTorq features a gaming console-inspired full digital display with TVS SmartXonnect technology. Once paired to the TVS NTorq smartphone app via Bluetooth, you can enjoy navigation assist, view caller ID, last parked location and ride statistics too. The the scooter looks sleek and angular - something the younger audience will appreciate. The T-shaped LED light at the rear is flanked by beautifully-designed fighter aircraft-like faux vents.

The scooter draws power from a new 124.79cc OHV 3-valve engine that generates 9.4PS at 7500rpm and 10.5Nm at 5500rpm. A 220mm front petal disc and a 130mm rear drum are offered as standard for optimum braking. Unfortunately, TVS does not offer sync brake system on this model. The NTorq will set you back by Rs 59,650 (ex-showroom Delhi).
