The entry-level variants of the Hyundai Creta are now available with the more powerful diesel engine as per the latest brochure of the compact SUV. The 1.6-litre diesel-manual powertrain is now offered on the E+ and EX variants alongside the 1.4-litre diesel engine.

The current-gen Creta is offered with three engine options - a 1.6-litre petrol, 1.6-litre diesel and 1.4-diesel. It is available with seven total variants - E+, EX, S, SX, SX Dual Tone, SX(O) and SX(O) Executive. Until now, the 1.4-litre was the only diesel option for the E+, EX and S variant.

While the S variant is still restricted to the 1.4-litre diesel-manual, the entry-spec E+ and EX variants are now going to be offered with the more powerful 1.6-litre diesel engine mated to the 6-speed manual. These variants still get basic features like dual front airbags, rear parking sensors and rear AC vents while the EX also gets rear parking camera, LED DRLs and 5.0-inch display for the infotainment system. The current engines are BS4 compliant and will be replaced by new BS6 engines by April 2020 in the next-generation Creta.

While we wait for the prices of the lower variants with the 1.6-litre diesel-manual option, the Creta’s price range will remain unaffected. The Hyundai compact SUV currently retails between Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15.67 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). More specifically, the current E+ and EX variants with the 1.4-litre diesel-manual are priced at Rs 10 lakh and Rs 11.02 lakh respectively (ex-showroom Delhi). It rivals the likes of the new Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks, MG Hector, Tata Harrier and Renault Captur.
