2017 Chevrolet Cruze will have 1.6-Litre diesel engine
Chevrolet unveiled the petrol variants of the second-gen Cruze in June 2015 in North America. Now, the long-awaited diesel variants of the new sedan have been announced, along with a hatchback version. The second-gen sedans will have a 1.6-litre diesel engine although the previous versions, which are on sale in India, feature a 2.0-litre diesel engine. The new Cruze will have either a new nine-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission.
While the petrol-powered Cruze is already on sale in the USA, the diesel avatar will go sale in the first half of 2017. Speaking of its Indian launch, the present Cruze is in dire need of replacement, and its poor sales figures are indicative of the same. We expect the American automaker to launch the second-generation Cruze next year in the country. The info about this new diesel is scarce, but rumours suggest it will be Opel-Vauxhall’s 1.6-litre ‘Whisper Diesel’.
India is likely to get the same diesel engine, along with the new 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol that made its debut with the Cruze in 2015 and is already on sale in the USA. If the petrol option is offered, it will be the first time for the Cruze nameplate in India.
