1.0-litre Kwid will deliver 23.01 kmpl; specs revealed
The Kwid, best-selling car from Renault in India has a new powerhouse and its specifications have been revealed before its launch. The French manufacturer will offer the one-litre petrol Kwid only in the top RxT variant (and the RxT option kit) and will continue to offer the current 0.8 SCe across all variants.
Here’s a quick look at what the hatchback’s new engine has to offer and more:
Engine and Transmission
The Kwid is currently powered by a 799cc petrol engine producing 54PS of power at 5,678rpm and 72Nm of torque at 4,400rpm. Like it, the new engine is also a 3-cylinder, 12-valve unit, but it displaces 999cc and produces 68PS of power at 5,500rpm and 91Nm of torque at 4,250rpm.
As you can see, not only is the new engine more powerful, the output figures are also delivered earlier in the rev range. Thanks to its light kerb weight of 699kg (around 64kg more than the base Kwid 0.8), it has a power to weight ratio of just over 97PS per ton.
An automated manual transmission (AMT) is expected to be offered soon, but for now it too will be offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox only.
Fuel Economy
As per the ARAI rating, the Kwid 1.0 SCe delivers 23.01kmpl, which isn’t too shy of the Kwid 0.8’s 25.17kmpl. For reference, the Alto K10 has a rated fuel economy figure of 24.07kmpl, while the Eon stands at 20.3kmpl.
Suspension, Brakes, Wheels and Tyres
No changes vs the 799cc Kwid here. You still get a MacPherson strut with lower transverse link setup up front, while the rear gets a twist beam suspension with coil springs.
Stopping power still comes from disc brakes at the front and drums at the rear. We hoped ABS would finally be added, but sadly, the safety feature has been skipped for now (likely to be introduced next year). It still rides on skinny 155/80 section tyres that wrap around 13-inch wheels.
Would you consider buying the Kwid 1.0 SCe More dope on the 'big Kwid' this way!
