Hyundai Verna diesel manual mileage: Claimed vs real
The Hyundai Verna is among the most popular cars in its segment in India in terms of buyer demand. It’s available with both petrol and diesel engine options and there’s an option of a manual transmission as well a torque converter automatic with both the engines. We recently tested the Verna in its diesel-manual avatar and noted the mileage it delivered per litre of fuel. Here are the numbers:
Displacement | 1.6-litre |
Max power | 128PS |
Peak torque | 260Nm |
Transmission | 6-speed MT |
Claimed fuel efficiency | 24.75kmpl |
Tested fuel efficiency (city) | 18.05kmpl |
Tested fuel efficiency (highway) | 23.38kmpl |
Mileage | 50% in city and 50% on highway | 25% in city and 75% on highway | 75% in city and 25% on highway |
20.37kmpl | 21.77kmpl | 19.14kmpl |
Before you plan to buy the Verna, read our review of the sedan here. The real-world fuel efficiency results reveal that the Verna is not as fuel efficient as the manufacturer claims. This is quite expected since the claimed figures are recorded under controlled conditions.
If you drive predominantly in the city, then expect the Verna to return somewhere around 19kmpl over a longer duration. The figure can drop lower if you have to negotiate your way through dense traffic often. On the other hand, if your daily routine involves a route that is relatively empty and where you can cruise at a steady speed, you can expect the overall fuel efficiency figure to go up to 21kmpl.

Your findings may vary from ours as fuel efficiency differs with respect to driving conditions, car condition and driver behaviour too. If you’re an existing Verna owner, do share your findings in the comments section below.
